In this course, students will be introduced to fundamental concepts in pharmacology including pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and modern and historical methods of drug discovery. These ideas will be explored while investigating the biochemical basis of disease and mechanisms of drug action for current health crises such as cancer, obesity, infectious disease, chronic pain, opiate addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, and depression. Special emphasis will be placed on the development of core scientific skills including interpreting literature, effective oral communication, collaborative work, and complex problem solving.
