For this major, the optional thesis must be on a topic that integrates philosophy and religion. Students writing a thesis may enroll in PHL 575 or THL 575 for 1–3 credits. Students may apply these credits to fulfill elective requirements in either philosophy (if enrolled in PHL 575) or theology (if enrolled in THL 575). Students who take Philosophy or Theology 575, complete an “A-level” thesis and comprehensive exam, and have at least a 3.400 grade-point average in their philosophy and religion major will graduate with honors in philosophy and religion. Students planning to attend graduate school are urged to try for honors.

A senior year comprehensive examination is also required.
